New storytelling

AN official unveiling of West Hoathly School's new Storytelling Chair took place last week. The children all took turns to sit on their new outdoor seating and at one point there were fifteen reception year children sitting on the chair.

The project started last Autumn when the School Association raised funds for the school's outdoor area. A leading designer, Alun Heslop from Chair Creative was appointed to design and build a magical storytelling chair.

Alun ran workshops at the school where children could make designs and work with wood; the children also visited Alun's workshop and saw the chair being made.

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Wakehurst Place, part of Kew, kindly donated the wood and during a school visit to Wakehurst the children chose an oak tree and it was felled and delivered to Alun's workshop.

Helen Schofield, Chair of Governors and Sue Sharpe from the School Association joined Jack Comber the youngest pupil at West Hoathly School for the ribbon-cutting.
