New nightmare for Bexhill motorists

MOTORISTS face a new and unexpected nightmare.Little Common Road must be ripped up again to fix the recently laid flood relief system.

Disruption to traffic and tourism will be caused for the second year running.

The news comes 14 months after the Observer reported the chaos set to be caused by Southern Water's vital flood relief work and the resulting noise, delays and inconvenience to residents with the initial program.

Defects in one part of the recently-completed scheme will mean another month of road works.

The 2million flood repairs to prevent sewage surfacing in bad weather had motorists frequently at a standstill.

Rother District Council leader Graham Gubby said this week: "It's very unfortunate because this is the beginning of the tourist season and it is one of the gateways to the town. There will inevitably be delays.

"I have spoken to Southern Water and they are very sympathetic of these facts and have assured me that they will bring pressure on the contractors, who to be fair did a pretty good job last time, to make sure the minimum amount of disruption will be caused."

Southern Water said: "We are doing some further work in Little Common Road which is due to start in mid June and should be finished by mid July."
