Pre and post film drinks are available to all on the night with chocolate, pop-corn, caffeine, beer and wine able to satisfy even the most discerning palate. The showing will take place on Friday 17 March from 7.30 pm onwards. All they suggest is a £5 donation from each person towards the upkeep of the hall. What could be better?

Claverham Monday Badminton Club: It was another well attended session this week with a good mix of protagonists willing to battle it out on the courts. Whilst there was a slight mishap to one of the players, namely Simon, who slightly strained a muscle in his leg, the evening passed off without incident on the injury side. It seems that the regulars now have established a commitment to the session which I am sure would be the envy of similar clubs in the area.

The constant changing of partners in the doubles determines that everyone has to alter their game plan throughout the evening. This ensures that there is always fresh impetus to do well. At one time we had all four courts being used at one go. Phew!! Almost a logistical nightmare.

Mind you we still had the usual comments being bandied about of “I don’t seem to be playing so well this week” or “I don’t know what has happened to me game”, but that is understandable given the competitive edge that pervades each and every game.

We also had Allison from another club, who also play on a Monday, join us for the last hour. This again brings an extra edge to the proceedings of the night. See you all next week .

Battle Brewery, Netherfield Hill: For those who are part of the Battle Brewery regular updating system, we have just been informed that the new brew, the Battle Brewery “Porter” is well on its way to fruition. Whilst dark brews are well known in other formats such as “Guinness” and “Old Peculiar Ale” to have a home-grown beer that has that delicious colour and density to satisfy even the most discerning palate will be a joy. I must admit I am a fan. This column will keep all its readers informed of the timing as to when it becomes available. Hmmmm.

Reflections on a garden: The storms at the moment have passed. Debris covers sections of the garden and needs attention to bring it back to normality. The spring flowers are well on their way and the grass needs cutting. It is the usual state of affairs then.

It is also the time to venture into the garden shed and start sharpening the shovels and spades, oiling clippers, trimmers and shears and generally giving your equipment the once over.

I notice too that I have a slight leak in the shed roof. These waterproof fillers and bitumens seemed to have a shelf-life that is shorter than perhaps one should expect, or maybe I come from an age when things seemed to last longer. All I know is, it will be good to get outside on a daily basis, fill my lungs with fresh air and get back into gardening.
