MEP visits Bexhill

IN A weekend visit to Bexhill, South East MEP Nirj Deva met the young owners of two home-grown businesses.

Marcus Simmons started MJS Waste, a commercial waste business, six years ago.

The MEP, himself a business owner, heard the challenges of running a small business when competing with both European regulations and large corporates.

Nirj praised his work ethic and customer focus, saying that these characteristics are key to business success.

Ex-Rother lifeguard Patrick Meyer opened surfshop Hosers on the Marina this year, and told Nirj of the big decision to take the future of his family in his own hands.

Deva said: "Independent business people are the backbone of this country's economy, producing 50 per cent of the county's GDP.

"They need encouragement and support, not meddling and red tape.

"It is fantastic and heartening to meet the next generation of British business people right here in Bexhill '“ without their hard work and courage the country's future would be grim."
