Man arrested after armed police raid in Barnham

ARMED police have arrested a man following a firearms threat in Barnham over the weekend.

Special-trained firearms officers from Sussex Police were called on Saturday (May 18) following reports that a man was threatening people using a gun in Yapton Road, at around 6.50pm.

Police cordoned off an area between Yapton Road and Garden Crescent for around 20 minutes while officers located the suspect.

After a brief search, a 48-year-old man from Bognor Regis was apprehended and arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

No one was hurt during the incident.

A police spokeswoman added the weapon recovered was a imitation firearm.

He was questioned by police and has since been release on bail until July 3.
