Making a splash

VISITORS to the newly re-opened Arundel open air swimming pool site are said to be over the moon to be able to use some of its facilities again.

Although the swimming pool itself is not yet ready for use, the site has been tidied up and landscaped and the paddling pool has been refurbished.

"The public who have visited have said how nice it is to see the site used again. Our first week of opening ran very smoothly, although the weather was slightly disappointing," said swimming pool trust chairman Ruth Kerslake.

An impressive programme of children's activities is being laid on at the site, which is open from 10.30am until 5.30pm every day, including weekends, until August 31.

Entry will cost 2.50 per child with accompanying adults going free, although donations to the Arundel Swimming Pool Appeal are always appreciated.

There's plenty of activities lined up at the pool site throughout the summer. Afternoon fun sessions continue every weekday until August 29.

The bouncy castles will be there to enjoy during the week as well as refreshments and a variety of outdoor games for all to enjoy on the large playing field.

If you fancy taking things a little easier, the site is the perfect venue for a summer picnic.

And the Oscar's activities programme began on Monday, offering a choice of sporty or art and craft sessions. The programme continues every weekday morning until August 22. Brochures are available from libraries, tourist information centres and council offices.

The Oscar programme includes sporty sessions with Simon Pryor, who has coached the Tottenham Hotspur youth teams.

Children must pre-book their places for the Oscar activities programme and sessions run each morning from 10am until noon at a cost of just 2 per session.
