Tim Jackson, a past student at The Littlehampton Community School, who now runs the East Preston Rascals after-school club, rescued and renovated the two plaques, commemorating the now-defunct Maud Allen and Andrew Cairns schools, which stood on the same land as the academy.

It was feared that, during the move from the school’s old building to its new £32m one, the plaques had been lost forever.

Sara Hopkins, community liaison manager at the academy, explained: “In the move to our new building, they were put in the wrong box, heading for site clearance by mistake and we thought they were lost.

“Thanks to Tim, we have a nice piece of our history, to add to the plaque with Hugh Dennis on it, marking our new academy.”

The rescued plaques have now been saved for posterity in the school’s new building. Sara wished to thank Tim for his work.
