Littlehampton’s ‘green legacy’ takes a step closer

Thirteen people joined one of the final pushes of the Littlehampton Tree Planting Project at Mewsbrook Park last Tuesday.

So far, the three-year project has seen more than 1,300 new trees planted across the town.

And now, there are only 80 more left to plant until the scheme is finally completed.

Dee Christensen, Arun District Council’s senior parks officer, said: “It’s a legacy for the future. Of course, trees die and fall over. But historically it’s been a few people who have planted new trees – the town’s legacy is down to them. So it’s nice to think that in 100 years, our legacy will be remembered.”

The project was led by the Arun Biodiversity Forum, which received £5,380 in funding.

Two more events will be taking place, with 80 trees set to be planted at Brookfield Park, on December 30, and the final 30 at the Littlehampton Cemetery on February 5.

“That’s when the national campaign finishes, with the one millionth tree being planted,” Dee added.
