Littlehampton students receive golden ticket

LUCKY students from The Littlehampton Academy were surprised this week when they received their golden ticket to attend the annual Roald Dahl Funny Prize ceremony.

Delighted youngsters from years seven and eight were invited to attend the ceremony, hosted in London, which awards the book that is considered, by children, to be the most rib-tickling read.

About 20 students from the academy took part in the judging process of the six short-listed books from the seven-to-14 age category.

The school also entered a competition to attend the award ceremony, in which student Kira Allen read a poem she had written based around the selected books.

The children will now perform the poem on stage in front of leading children’s author Michael Rosen during the ceremony on Tuesday, November 8.

They will also have a chance to talk to some of the writers and illustrators as well as having their photos taken, too.

The academy is the only secondary school invited to this year’s awards.
