The inshore lifeboat was then launched to a 35ft sloop which had run aground on the spending beach up against the eastern harbour wall.

The vessel had entered Shoreham and suffered engine failure and was then driven onto the beach by the wind.

The port pilot cutter had taken the vessel under tow. The lifeboat assisted the tow through the locks.
