It's bumper to bumper on Hooe's big day

By midday the field was teeming with families eating ice-creams, visiting stalls or getting a close-up glimpse of the many rare and classic cars on show.

They included an 1899 Peugeot Type 26, and 1899 Parisienne Voiturette and several other early 20th century models.

The array of classic cars through the ages spanned war-time vehicles right up to modern era icons like the Mini.

Children's author Val Biro turned out with his famous Austin 'Gumdrop.'

There was also an unexpected American invasion. Organiser Ron Fellows said: "A whole bunch of them turned up in custom cars - classic cars which they'd souped-up. They turned up and there wasn't really enough room on the showground for them so they had to go in the car park, but we allowed them into the parade later.

"With them there were probably 200 people exhibiting vehicles."

It's not yet known how much was raised for the charity, Kidney Research, but Ron thinks it could be a record year.

As the afternoon progressed the real fun got under way, with games and competitions for motorists young and old. The children took part in games like Burst the Balloon with their radio controlled cars before the adults did the same with the real things.

Many exhibitors dressed in period costume to go with their cars.
