Incident causestraffic tail-back

There was a long traffic tail-back in Rye last Friday afternoon when an ambulance and paramedics attended an emergency in the High Street.

Rye resident Nick Taylor said: “There were chaotic scenes with traffic backed up to the Landgate.

People were getting very angry and irate.

“There were lorries trying to reverse back down Tower Street.”

Pat Hughes, of Rye Community Transport said: “The delay was for less than ten minutes.

“People caught up in the delay were told that it was an ambulance dealing with an emergency incident and yet they were still very impatient.

“This did not last very long at all and yet people’s attitude was annoyance.”

Emergency Service vehicles had problems reaching incidents in the Citadel area last year due to being blocked by illegally parked vehicles on two occasions.
