MORE THAN JUST A PUDDLE: This morning, when thinking about writing the Village Voice, I watched Iden clouds drift into their various shapes. They seem to possess a certain trickery don't they? Just when we've familiarized ourselves with perhaps an old man smoking a pipe drifting through the sky, the cloud formation changes him into something resembling an aeroplane, or a tree. I recently, watched a film called '˜You've Got Mail', a romance about a woman who owns a book shop [sloppy, but nice!] Anyway, Tom Hanks tells Meg Ryan, that he doesn't understand the Joni Mitchell song, which goes, '˜I've looked at clouds from both sides now, from up and down, and still somehow, it's cloud illusions I recall, I really don't know clouds at all'. Oh, how could he not understand! It means [or I think it does] that we set such store by clouds. They are so majestic. So much so that it's inconceivable that all they are is plain old water vapour, and we wish they were so much more. Something so beautiful [almost divine], should surely have more substance. Sometimes science pops our balloon. It disappoints us because it is far and away too realistic for the more romantic of us. Perhaps Iden's clouds though are more than just a '˜puddle'. They seemed to me this morning at least, with Easter only just over, to have undeniable character and depth, as they wafted across the sky.

KNITTER-NATTER: The Knitter-natter on Tuesday 29th March, in Iden village hall, was good fun. Iden WI holds A Knitter-natter. And anyone from the Rye area is welcome. You can bring Knitting, sewing, adult colouring, or whatever you wish.

BINGO: The next Bingo session is in Iden village hall, on Thursday 7th April. Doors open at 2pm, eyes down at 2.30pm. There is a jackpot, a flier, a raffle, and a light tea is served at half time. Anyone from the Rye area is very welcome, for a fun afternoon.

THE POP-IN: The next Pop-In, will be on Monday 4th April, at 11am, in Iden village hall. Don’t be shy about coming along, because everyone is welcome for a get-together, which is a nice way to start the week.

A SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION: There will be a service of Holy Communion, in Iden Parish Church, on Sunday April 3rd, at 9.30am, followed by coffee in the Old Hall.

TONIGHT IN IDEN VILLAGE HALL: There will be a talk tonight at the Iden and District Natural History Society AGM, in Iden village hall, at 7.30 pm. The talk should interest us all, as the guest speaker will be Dr Barry Yates, who will talk on the future of Rye Harbour, and an update of work undertaken in the Rye Harbour area. HOLIDAY PARTY PIECE: My husband’s [Grandad’s] party piece during the holiday season seems to be falling over. At Christmas, while teaching our son’s dog Jenson to swim, he slipped over in the sea, and was brought back soaking wet, and this Easter, while on a short holiday in Cornwall, the family brought him home covered in mud, where he’d slipped and rolled down a bank. After a shower, and unhurt, he settled down with the paper, and a giant –sized bar of Aero [which was supposed to be for the kids, as an extra for the Easter Egg hunt] The dog found, and consumed his first rabbit [it’s in their nature, but it’s not very endearing,] One Grandson, Oscar said “Now that he’s eaten the Easter bunny, do we still get eggs? [he doesn’t actually believe in the Easter bunny, but was checking out the scenario] My daughter works at an infant school, and she said they all had to write about Easter. One little girl wrote “Jesus will not be in to school today, because she is on the cross being crucified. Easter is such a beautiful time isn’t it? A spiritual time , a time when nature is at it’s best, and children’s minds seek clarity about Jesus, and the Easter story, and that sweet, all too brief period when they believe in the Easter bunny. It’s a time when families get together and appreciate each other, Grandad falls over, and helps himself to the Easter egg stash, and the daffodils everywhere are out of this world! I hope you all had a lovely weekend.
