CHURCH SERVICE: There will be a service of Morning Prayer at 10.30 am this coming Sunday. It is the 12th Sunday after Trinity.

ICKLESHAM SCARECROW COMPETITION: The category for this year’s competition is Angels and Devils. What scope there is in that. Karen is of the opinion that there will be a few cross-overs, D’angels.!!

STREET GAMES: The Parish Council has arranged for Street Games during the Summer Holiday break. On Fridays 21st and 28th August the games are available free to all young people up to 18 years old with a selection of different organised sports and games to enjoy. They will take place at Winchelsea Beach Recreation ground from 4 pm to 5.30 pm, and at Icklesham Recreation Ground from 6 pm to 7.30 pm. These are the two remaining Fridays - the scheme has already been running for three weeks. But I thought a reminder was timely.

WEATHER: Yes, well. The cat thought that it was the end of the world when we had the thunderstorm ALL morning last Thursday. He really doesn’t like thunder. And the garden was temporarily flooded by the torrential rain. I have not heard of any lightning strikes in the village or particular damage, thank goodness.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this coming Sunday will be played by Logan, described as Eclectically Unplugged. There is no quiz this week. The next one is on Wednesday 2nd September in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice.

ROBIN HOOD BONFIRE SOCIETY: An Auction of Promises has been arranged for Monday 31st August at 1.30 pm at the Robin Hood Inn. If you have any ideas for promises, you can contact the Society on email at [email protected] with your offers.

TEA CONCERT: Two young ladies will be performing in Winchelsea Church on Saturday afternoon 22nd at 3 pm. Sisters Katie and Natalie Molloy will play Classical Guitar and Piano respectively. This is a fairly informal concert with free entry and a retiring collection. It lasts about an hour and then tea and cake are on sale for a modest charge. I have heard them both play and they are delightful and VERY good on their instruments. And they are young musicians at the beginning of their careers. Do come to hear them. You will be very welcome.

ORGAN CONCERT: The penultimate Organ Concert at All Saints church, Hastings will be on Monday 24th August at 7.30 pm. The performer will be Peter King from Bath Abbey. He will play music by Guilmant, Saint-Saens, Handel, Ximenes, Wolstenholme, Mendelssohn, Franck, Smart and Stanford. Tickets are £8 at the door and refreshments are available during the interval.

If you were not able to get to the Eastbourne Air Show, did you notice the small aeroplane doing aerobatics on Saturday afternoon? Maybe it wasn’t part of the show, or perhaps it was connected to the Rye Country Show. Or perhaps it was neither of these, but just our local ‘plane who does amazing things over the Brede Valley. All I can say is that is that the pilot must have a very strong stomach as he does the rolls at the top of his loop- the - loop.
