GREETINGS: As if to make up for the fading snowdrops of two weeks ago, the weatherman in Cumbria decided to make the countryside ALL white, and on Tuesday we awoke to a white world. It was beautiful but only a light powdering. All at the lower levels had melted by 10am. There are masses of daffodils and crocuses in flower and many, many lambs skipping about. When I left, the sky was blue, the wind was cold and there was lots of snow on the upper fells.

CHURCH NEWS: The 9.30 am service for the second Sunday of Lent will be Parish Eucharist led by Rev. Christopher Breeds.

EASTER LILIES: As Easter approaches, the Church is once again inviting you to donate a lily in memory of a loved one. The lilies, along with the list of those remembered, will be used to decorate the church at this special time. As last year, the lilies will cost £2 for each individual name remembered. Should you wish to donate a lily please contact Janet Pegg at any church service or event. Envelopes will be available for the names and donations at the back of the church and in the Memorial Hall.

COFFEE MORNING: Tomorrow, Saturday 11th March, from 10.30 am until 12 noon, tea, coffee, cake and biscuits will be served in Icklesham Church. There will be cakes to buy, Bring and Buy, and produce. All proceeds will go to the upkeep of our historic church building. This event replaces the well supported lunches which took place last year.

LENT LUNCHES: In the Memorial Hall each Friday throughout March, from today - 10 March from 12.30 to 2 pm, there will be Lent Lunches for various charities. Everyone is welcome, so come and have a pleasant lunch with friends and neighbours.

ROBIN HOOD BONFIRE SOCIETY: The Over 60s party is happening tomorrow, 11th March, in the Memorial Hall from 2 pm. It may not be too late to give your name to Kim Holland on 0784 3945 709. This year’s entertainment is provided by The Fieldstone Boys, (Nick Warren’s Band.)

WEATHER: The sun is warm enough today to encourage all my crocuses to open their petals wide and it all looks amazingly spring-like and beautiful. The days are perceptively lengthening now and the figures prove it. On February 11th, sunrise was at 0717; on March 11th it is 0619 : sunset on February 11th was 1706; on March 11th it is 1755. There is a full moon this weekend and the tides are big ones with a 3.8 m rise on Sunday.

QUEENS HEAD: The live music at 4 pm on Sunday will be played by the Black Sheep Blues Band. On Wednesday at 8.30 pm there will be a Quiz in aid of Breast Cancer Care.

NEW PAVILION LOTTERY DRAW: Trust Chairman Tony Thorne drew the winners for the January Draw : £50 Jules Buss; £25 Mark Stunt; £20 Edward Jury; £15 Gary Weller; £10 Ken Tytherleigh; £5 Ladies Darts Team. Icklesham Casuals FC Chairman Bob Baker drew the February lucky winners : £50 Eric Butler; £25 Marion Lovell; £20 Will Brand; £15 Robert Baker; £10 Kathy Ball; £5 Kevin Wall. The next draw will be on 18th March. If you would like to be in the draw, contact Stuart Baker or David Mayne. Many thanks to all of those who already give their support.

SCHOOL NEWS: Three new Parent Governors have been welcomed to the school. Mrs. Leonard, Ms. Betts and Mr. Good have been successful in the recent Governor recruitment process. Current Governors and Staff look forward to working closely with them in this vital role of leadership of the school. Yesterday the netball team played in the Area Finals. Hope they did well. The Disco raised an amazing £278 for school funds. The Headteacher Awards this week go to Starfish Class, Holly S. and Michael; Stingray Class, Grace F.; Dolphin Class, Jacob; and Octopus Class, Alice. The Class awards are as follows ; Starfish Class, Theo and Barnaby; Stingray Class, Rosie and Elliot; Dolphin Class, Edward and Bowe and Octopus Class, Hannah, Lara, Noah, Ned, Lili T., and Saskia the swimming team who came a wonderful second in the swimming gala, despite being two members of the team down. Well done every body. Don’t forget the MUSIC CONCERTS on 23rd and 24th March at 2 pm.
