“I was on the straight bit heading to Birling Gap and that’s all I can remember - there’s nothing after that.”

Katie said a woman driving a black BMW estate car, who was with her husband at the time, was with her at the side of the road when she came around. She managed to call her boyfriend Jack Godfrey and went to the DGH to get checked over.

Katie said, “My helmet was in bits, it definitely saved my life. Other than that I just had grazes on my hands and knees.

“I just don’t know how I came off, I don’t know what happened.”

Katie is doing okay now and resting at home.

She wants to thank the woman who helped her that day. Katie said the panic of the situation meant they never managed to get the name of the mysterious stranger.
