The 1st Anniversary of Hurst Green Community Shop & Cafe was celebrated on Saturday 24th May. The sun shone, there were free food tasting’s and BBQ food was available which enabled the attendees to enjoy products stocked in the shop and the cafe. Entertainment for the younger visitors included a coconut shy, splat the shopkeeper in stocks, face face painting and the cafe’s outdoor table tennis table. The leafy garden in front of the shop & cafe provided a stunning setting for the village community to congregate and celebrate the success of the community shop project.

The event concluded by a gathering of the volunteer workforce for a glass or two of champagne and a BIG ‘thank you.’

Clare Vidler the shop keeper said of the event, “Today’s event really brought the spirit of the village together and allowed myself and the board to show their appreciation and thanks for the wonderful support this community shop has had from the customers and to the volunteers for their considerable commitment of time and effort during our first year of trading. The overwhelming success story here is how this shop and cafe has created a friendly meeting point for the village community. I get a lot of pleasure from seeing village members meeting for a coffee or lunch here or just bumping into each other by accident whilst using the shop and post office. It has become a thriving social hub for the village.”

The lucky winner of the Giant Toblerone raffle draw was a regular customer who lives directly opposite the shop and cafe!

The Hurst Green Community Shop & Cafe continues to evolve and the cafe is increasing its range of snacks and dishes within the unique converted church set back in the garden space. Opening Hours are: Monday - Friday: 7.30am - 6pm Saturday: 9am - 1am Sunday: 10am - 1pm Website: www.hurstgreenshop.co.uk
