Horsham society raises £800 for mental health research

The Dog & Bacon Golf Society, in Horsham, raised the money over the past year through monthly golf competitions and an annual charity raffle.

The money was raised by using a system of fines for misdemeanours on the golf course at these competitions along with the raffle.

The funds will go to support research work for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the mental health research unit at New Park House in Horsham which is run by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Margaret Brice, from Springfield Park, Horsham, is captain of the golf society and nominated the research unit as the supported charity for the year.

She said: “As a bipolar sufferer myself, I am only too aware of the devastating impact that mental illness can have on your life and how it can strike anybody at any time.

“Over the past few years, I have received wonderful treatment from the staff at New Park House who have helped me to learn to live with my condition and rebuild my life.”

Rachael Duke, head of fundraising for Sussex Partnership NHS Trust Charity, said “It is fantastic that such a small golf society has raised £800 for mental health research and we’d like to say a huge thank you to Margaret and all the pub’s patrons for their generous support.”
