Hailsham care home residents inspired by autumn

The beautiful bright pieces of art are now decorating Abbots Wood Manor Care Home in London Road giving guests a wonderful surprise when they visit.

Resident Elizabeth Lockwood, aged 87, said: “This has been such sociable activity that has allowed us all to show off our creative flair. I didn’t realise that I was so artistic.

“As autumn draws in the colours are so wonderful and it’s lovely to bring a bit of the outdoors inside.”

Fellow resident, Betty Turner, aged 93, used leaves and acorns from the garden along with huge swathes of paint for her tribute to Keats.

She said: “Autumn represents such a dramatic change in the colours, so it is lovely to have this reflected in our art.

“It is nice to think other people can now enjoy our pieces of work.”

The communal art project has been created over October, with each resident invited to join.

Regional Community Relations Lead Richard Hollands said: “Art is a positive way to get people to share ideas but also engage is conversation, so it gets people together.

“We are delighted to be able to show off this work and make people smile. And by using Keats as inspiration, we have all been reminded how important it is to appreciate nature.”

The work will be displayed in the home lounge as well as reception area.
