Fury over lack of Weald support

THE South Downs Campaign has hit out after West Sussex County Council told the reopened South Downs National Park inquiry there was no support for including the Western Weald.

It says the council statement was submitted nearly two weeks after parish and town councils had met leader Cllr Henry Smith to express their concern about the Western Weald being excluded.

western-weald/ has topped 4,000 signatures and is the top environmental petition on the Prime Minister's website. People have until July 9 to sign it.

In addition, 25 parish and town councils are now members of the South Downs Campaign.

The county council is preparing to pay for a QC to appear at the inquiry, in particular to present new evidence on the Western Weald at the end of May, but also on several other occasions.

It is likely the council will argue for the exclusion of the Western Weald and present evidence that the campaign says could be damaging for the area.
