Fresh artistic start for Wick school

CHILDREN who will be the first pupils at a new school opening in September are already helping to make it look more attractive.

An Arts Week held jointly by neighbouring Wickbourne Infant School and Flora McDonald Junior School, Wick, produced creative work which will be on display at the new White Meadows Primary School.

The two schools will merge to form the new one and the special week both celebrated the old schools, as well as looking forward to the future as White Meadows Primary School.

Children from nursery to year six took part in a textile project inspired by the sea, using techniques including batik, wax resist and felting to produce stunning displays.

Professional artist Patrick Bullock worked with some of the children to make wind chimes for the new school’s grounds, and other pupils learned a celebration dance which was performed for staff and parents.

Sarah Neal, art co-ordinator for Flora McDonald, organised the week. She said: “It has been a great success, creating some new and fresh art work for the new school. It has been a joy to watch all the children engrossed in these activities.”
