Football roadshow kicks off interest in teenagers

TEENAGERS were encouraged to get back into sport when the football mash up roadshow visited Bognor Regis.

The roadshow took place at The Regis School and was aimed at tackling the drop out from football of players in the 14-17 age group.

More than 50 young footballers got the chance to enjoy a fun-packed afternoon of football, playing small-sided games and testing their skills with professional football freestylers.

Local FA Vauxhall youth officer Nathaniel White ran the course. He said: “The response to football mash up has been fantastic.

“We are starting to see more 14 to 17-year-olds get back to enjoying playing football with their friends on a regular basis.

“We are encouraging anyone, no matter what level, to come down and get involved in football mash up and bring the fun back into their football.”

Players aged 14-17 will be able to sign up for a ten-week course of sessions for all abilities and fitness levels, at the neighbouring Arena Sports Centre. Details at

The initiative follows research for the FA which showed why players of that age group stop playing.
