Fly-tipping action in Sidley

FLY-TIPPERS who use Sidley Goods Yard are facing a crackdown from authorities.

The Environment Agency, Rother District Council and East Sussex County Council are taking action to prevent the problem which has plagued the area recently.

Surveillance at the site will be carried out by Rother officers over the next few weeks.

As owners of the site, Rother is in the process of clearing any waste already dumped.

As well as providing support on the matter, the Environment Agency has supplied signs to warn people of the penalties of dumping illegal waste.

Liz Wood, Environment Agency officer, said: "Sidley Goods Yard has been abused by fly-tippers for too long. The Environment Agency has kick-started the project into action and we hope that the multi-agency response will ensure people are aware that dumping their waste illegally will no longer be tolerated."
