Fight to save Battle of Britain airfield from homes bid

The historic Battle of Britain airfield at Tangmere is under threat and could disappear if a planned major housing development for the site goes ahead.

English Heritage has been asked to intervene and an influential campaign to resist the development has been launched on the eve of the Battle of Britain anniversary.

Two years ago, West Sussex County Council approved the sale of 5.6 acres of land and buildings at the airfield for houses to Chichester developers Seaward Properties Ltd with the deal subject to planning permission.

Chichester District Council will determine the planning application, not yet submitted.
