Festival Fische

THE controversial Fische houseboat on Shoreham Beach has been nominated for an award as the best venue in the Brighton Festival Fringe.

Polly and Fred Cole are holding an exhibition about the history of Shoreham's houseboat community onboard the former German minesweeper, which is open from 11am every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from now until Sunday, June 19.

The exhibition includes press cuttings, pictures and paintings and is also part of the Adur Festival.

Mrs Cole said the exhibition has already had a five star review on the Brighton Festival Fringe and now they have been nominated for the best venue award.

She added: "It's not quite the Oscars, but they are being presented by Natasha Kaplinski."

The planning inquiry into the Fische finished in April. Inspector Roger Priestley is now writing his report and will send it to the Deputy Prime Minister, who will have the final say on whether the boat stays on the Riverbank or not.

A decision is not expected for several months.
