Felpham man unbeaten by gruelling heat

A Felpham man has unfinished business in the London Marathon.

David Brown (46), of Guernsey Farm Lane, completed the course in the gruelling heat in 4hrs 19mins 26secs.

He was happy given the conditions, though disappointed that he had failed to beat his target in each of his four marathons of getting round in less than four hours.

He said: 'If I could guarantee another place next year and for cooler race day conditions, I would definitely do the London Marathon again.

'If I have to wait years for another place then, just maybe, that was my last.'

His disappointment was lifted by the near 1,000 which he raised in sponsorship for the British Kidney Patient Association.

This was in memory of his aunt Susan Holdgate who benefited from the charity's support.

David also achieved another aim in leaving many of those who wore fancy dress on the day trailing behind him. A world record beating Elvis, a shuffling penguin and a tiger were among the few who got the better of him this year.
