Farewell to Bexhill RAF veteran John Francis

A STANDARD bearer from the Royal Air Force Association led mourners in honouring the life of former RAF senior warrant officer John Francis, whose funeral was held at Hastings Crematorium on Wednesday this week.

Mr Francis, of Tilford Court, Sutton Place, Bexhill, died on January 7, aged 88. His funeral featured a musical eulogy by his daughter, Lynette, reflecting his 30 years’ military service, personality and achievements.

During his career he was posted to locations both in the UK and abroad, including Singapore, Aden and Canada and was a friend of Matt Monro, whom he met while the legendary singer was serving as a corporal in the Army.

With his expertise in radar and plotting, Mr Francis was once a key figure at the School of Fighter Control based at West Drayton.

In his leisure time, he spent many hours following sport, from athletics to soccer.
