BI-CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS: The first lecture of a series of six was held at the University of Sussex Meeting House last week when Professor Maurice Howard gave us an inspiring insight into 19th century architecture, beginning and ending with St Laurence Falmer, and in between taking us to other churches in Sussex and around the country including the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. The second lecture in this series will be by Dr Cathy Watts, Principal Lecturer and National Teaching Fellow, College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Brighton who will be talking on The Flesh made Word: how 19th century science changed the English language This will be held on Thursday at the University of Sussex Meeting House at 6.30pm.

PARKING IN THE VILLAGE: Lewes District Council have published proposals to change the parking status in the village. It is very difficult to understand why this is happening when Councils are supposed to making cuts to save money they come up with this scheme which will inevitably cost them money to change. Another traffic notice has appeared in South Street, warning of the risk of skidding and advises a traffic speed of 10 mph. This particular stretch of road, which is only approximately 50 metres long, goes nowhere without any curves or bends, travelling at a speed of more than 10 miles per hour seems virtually impossible.

SPRING: Spring at last is on its way, we have a large post of crocuses which open right out when the sun shines and when this happens it is full of bees and one very large bumble bee feasting on the pollen.
