Ewhurst Green, Cripps Corner and Staplecross village voice

Tomorrow (Saturday) Hilary Ganly will be holding her Water Colour Workshop from 10am to 4pm in the Church Room, Staplecross. It is especially for beginners, so anyone who wishes they had picked up a paint brush before, now is the time to try and receive excellent tuition.

Those interested should ring Hilary on 01580-830704 to book a place. Hilary also tutors the popular Staplecross Art Group which meets each Thursday 10am-12.30pm in the village hall.

Next Tuesday (March 20) there is to be a meeting in the village hall to discuss the Jubilee Celebrations. Some are already arranging their own, but in order not to clash, it is proposed to look at the dates, so the residents could be having several days of celebrations if they decide to attend them all! All welcome to attend and the meeting is due to start at 7.30pm.

On Wednesday it is the Luncheon Club at 12.30pm in the village hall. Members are reminded to contact Anka (830260) or Dennis 830816 should they not be able to attend. New members interested in joining (over 50 and resident in the parish) should contact Anka or Dennis beforehand to register their interest.

Saturday March 24, is the next jumble sale in the village hall at 2pm and this is being held to support both the Bonfire Society and the Bowls Club. It promises good quality jumble, cakes and raffle prizes.

Church warden Lizzie Stern is asking for volunteers to grab their cleaning materials and head to St James Church on Saturday March 31 at 10.30am, when the assembled team will spring clean the church ready for Easter.

There are many over the years who thought the long-awaited footpath between Cripps Corner and Staplecross would never happen. However, at the March Parish Council meeting, County Councillor Peter Jones said that it was possible that funding would be available to construct part of this path. There are two schemes which the Parish Council should consider before agreeing. The promise so far is that the project is “being looked into” and the path would go from Beacon Lane as far as The Cross Inn and village stores. This is definitely a step in the right direction and much better value than £5 million it has cost to promenade along the sea front at Bexhill.
