Why jerky and jaunty jackdaws are a favourite-Birdwatch at RSPB

Jackdaws. OK, I know, not everyone's favourite, but certainly one of mine. Why? They are highly sociable, seem to take great delight in performing outrageous aerobatics for no apparent reason, and have wonderfully evocative calls.

They are common, found in a wide variety of rural and ruban settings and are always a pleasure to watch.

The jackdaw, Corvus monedula, is a member of the crow family, mostly black, with a grey hood over the back ofd their heads. They are smaller than rooks and carrion crows, and in flight show more rounded wings.
