Some rain would be most welcome of course, with both farms and gardens in need of a drink.

It isn't as dry as most people fear, we have been cultivating the sandy soil at Hascombe and the sub soiler shows there is moisture 12 inches down, and on clay at Plaistow, there is an eight inch crust of dry clay, but underneath there is plenty of moisture.

It is the new plants and seedlings, peas for example, that need a drink this week.

We shall start drilling maize at the end of this week, most of the area is now ready or near ready for drilling. We have increased the maize acreage trhis year and we are now growing over 40o0 acres in total.
