Blackbird numbers fall

BLACKBIRD numbers have dropped more than a quarter since 1970, according to the RSPB.

About four and a half million pairs live in Britain, with as high as 250 pairs in each square kilometre in suburbia, but as low as two or three pairs in the upland moors and none at all on the high slopes of Scottish mountains.
