But she is prepared to shave them off all her hair in the name of charity.

The 33-year-old, from East Preston, is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support’s Brave the Shave campaign and is already more than halfway towards her £1,000 target.

“I have wanted to do this for a while, ever since both my auntie and my friend got diagnosed with cancer,” she explained.

“For those who know me, you will know that my hair is a big part of my identity and I hope by shaving it all off I can raise a ton of money.

“It’s scary but not as scary as having cancer, so I hope that this shows my love and support and can make a little difference along the way.”

Her 23 inches of hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer.

It will be shaved off at The Sea Horse Café, in Sea Road, East Preston, on September 1, Gemma’s 34th birthday.

Her mum, Julie Maguire, said she had not been keen when she first heard the idea but was now very proud of Gemma. “Not many of us get to make a real difference,” she added.
