Does Rye want high speed trains?

There have been claims that people are divided over whether having HS1 trains stopping at Rye would be good for the town.

Funding has been approved to extend the high speed service from Ashford to Hastings via the Rye line.

But it has not yet been decided whether the trains will stop at Rye station or just speed through.

The Marshlink rail group says it will be pushing hard for Rye to be a stop.

But some have raised concerns that Rye could end up being a commuter town with extra pressure on housing, services and school places.
