Development concerns
AS someone who regularly passes the East Clayton Farm complex, between Washington and Storrington, I was very surprised to read in the Spring Edition of the council's magazine that the development has won awards.
However commendable the usage of the development, it presents nothing but a banal and insensitive blot of unrelieved red brick fronted by a large car park and the proximity to the National Park and an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty makes it even worse. This type of development would be insensitive in an urban area and is quite acceptable in the Washington context.
No attempt has been made to landscape or mitigate the blot and it shows further the lack of judgement in visual matters displayed by Horsham District Council, particularly when compared with some local authorities- for example Adur District Council.
Buildings do noit just have to fundtion, they have to be visually sympathetic and sensitive.
