Death crash biker may have hit 100mph

A MOTORCYCLIST killed on King Offa Way may have been travelling between 80 to 100 miles per hour immediately before his fatal accident, an inquest heard.

Jason Montague, of Tunbridge Wells, died last March when he lost control of his Honda Fireblade heading westbound on the A259.

A number of witnesses suggested the motorcycle was travelling at "an excessive speed" along the 40 miles per hour stretch of road.

They also claimed Mr Montague careered down the central reservation before striking a lamp post after coming off his vehicle.

A post - mortem revealed he died of major head injuries.

King Offa Way has been the scene of three fatal crashes in the past three years.

The 23-year-old computer technician was on a biking trip with a group of four friends and heading towards Brighton when the crash occurred on a Saturday afternoon.

Coroner Alan Craze acknowledged from the evidence Mr Montague was probably, "over-taking at some speed at the point where the road was going to the left" with the act of clipping the kerb causing him to crash.

He recorded a verdict of accidental death.
