Man sought after Pease Pottage burglary

SUSSEX POLICE have released an Efit of a man sought in connection with a distraction burglary in Barn Close, Pease Pottage, Crawley on Thursday February 16.

Officers say the victim, an 88-year-old man, let two men into his home after they claimed there was a gas leak down the road and they needed to run a tap in his kitchen.

Shortly after the men left the victim discovered his wallet containing several thousand pounds had gone.

The suspect in the Efit is described as white, in his 30s, 5ft 7in with short hair and was wearing an all in one black boiler suit with sleeves that went over his hands.

PC Oliver Summers from Crawley Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This was a distressing incident for the elderly victim and we hope that by releasing an Efit of the suspect we will be able to trace the person responsible for this despicable crime.

“If you recognise the man in the Efit or have any information that could help police with their inquiries please call 101 quoting serial 1007 of 14/2 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A Sussex Police spokesperson added: “Police are still considering if the same suspect was involved in a distraction burglary in Davey Drive, Brighton, on the same day where a 92-year-old woman had £450 pounds stolen from her home and two other similar distraction burglaries in Hove and Crawley on February 14.”
