A MAN has been sentence to six years imprisonment for causing death by careless driving following a collision on the A24 in Dial Post last year, says Sussex Police.

Cary Gordon, 49, of Marine Parade, Worthing, was sentenced at Hove Crown Court yesterday (27 February).

Suffolk man Christopher Alderton, 30, died following the collision on January 14 2011.

Gordon, who pleaded guilty, was working as a recovery driver when his Renault truck collided with Mr Alderton’s blue Nissan Micra at 6.40pm.

Mr Alderton was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with head injuries and later transferred to Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath, where he remained until his tragic death.

The family of Christopher Alderton said: “Nothing will ever bring Christopher back and he will be eternally missed by all those who knew and loved him.

“This type of junction has a history of accidents. How many more people have to die before action is taken. The loss of Christopher will be with us for the rest of our lives. We do not want another family to suffer in this dreadful way.”

Sergeant Clare Kenward from Haywards Heath Road Policing Unit said: “All road fatalities are tragic and our sympathies are with Christopher’s family and friends, who have waited a year for closure.”

Gordon was also received a 12 month driving ban.
