March 23:

Rowan Bassett, 35, of Windmill Close, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle at Upper Avenue, Eastbourne, on March 3 while over the drink-drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 87 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was fined £400 and banned from driving for 21 months.

Raymond Callister, 39, of Honeycrag Close, Polegate, pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Focus on Honeycrag Close, on March 6 while more than three times over the drink-drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 132 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was sentenced to prison for 12 weeks suspended for a year and banned from driving for three years. Magistrates said the reason for the sentence was a very high reading aggravated by two previous convictions. The court also made a community order.

Christopher Radford, 64, of Coppice Avenue, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to driving a Nissan Juke, on Coopers Hill, Eastbourne, on February 26 while over the drink-drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 65 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was fined £600 and banned from driving for 40 months.

Ian Rockingham, 52, of Seven Sisters Road, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to driving a Toyota Corolla, on Seven Sisters Road, on March 4 while more than four times over the drink-drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 141 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for one year and banned from driving for three years.

March 24:

Helen Haffenden, 53, of Hereward Road, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to stealing a mobile phone and a charge of assault by beating. The offences took place on February 22 at Pevensey Road, Eastbourne. She was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for one year. The court also made community order and issued a restraining order. Magistrates said the reason for the sentence was because of previous convictions and failing to comply with previous court orders.

James King, 44, of Wadhurst Close, Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to stealing mini chocolate eggs, worth £10, from Iceland. The offence took place at Langney Road, Eastbourne, on February 19. He also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to custody at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on March 10 and committing another offence during the period of a suspended sentence. He was sent to prison for a total of 20 weeks. Magistrates said the reason for the sentence was because of a further offence of dishonesty aggravated by the suspended sentence for similar offences.
