COUPLE KILLED IN SOUTH AFRICA

A COUPLE from High Hurstwood were killed on Friday (February 16) while on holiday in South Africa.

Jean McQuillen, 56, a Buxted parish councillor, died alongside her husband Patrick, 66, after being hit by a car travelling at around 60-75mph.

It is thought the car jumped through a red light and struck the couple as they crossed a busy road in the main tourist area of Cape Town.

The couple died from massive trauma injuries, said paramedics.

A 22-year old driver was interviewed by police and his blood was tested for drugs and alcohol before being released.

Police in Cape Town said the driver could be formally charged tomorrow (Tuesday).
