Couple celebrate sapphire anniversary

A RUSTINGTON couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in style with home made cakes and champagne, writes Emily Bridges.

Florence and Charlie Huggins were surrounded by family last Thursday when they celebrated at Fairlight Nursing Home, Worthing Road.

Charlie, 88, said he first noticed Florence, 85, in his early 20s when she would regularly cycle past the shop he worked in.

He said: "It got to the point where the shopkeeper would tell me when she was about to pass so I could go and watch her.

"Then one day I was on my motorbike and I saw Flo with a friend. The friend spoke to me but I said 'It's not you I'm interested in, it's your friend', and that was it!"

Charlie was a driver for all his working life and Florence had several jobs including shoe maker, milk lady and postwoman.

The couple have three children, three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Charlie said: "We are both extremely lucky to still be here to celebrate."
