Commuters’ cars targeted by vandals in Battle

A COMMUTER who had her car vandalised three times in nine months is calling on anyone else who has been targeted to contact police.

The 27-year-old woman, who does not want to be named, parks her car in Glengorse, close to Battle railway station, before making the daily commute to London, where she works as a PA.

But the woman’s car has become a target for vandals, who have damaged the vehicle by running keys along the bodywork - leaving the owner with a bill for hundreds of pounds.

The car and a number of others were damaged on Tuesday.

The woman, who lives in St Leonards, says she believes a Glengorse resident, who is unhappy with commuters parking there, could be responsible and claims only commuters cars have been targeted.

She has reported the latest incident to police, adding: “They said they are going to take further action now because it has happened so many times.

“I noticed the damage on my car on Wednesday morning and I went up there and noticed there had been a number which have been keyed.”

The woman says her vehicle was not illegally parked when the vandalism occurred.

She estimates the vandalism will cost £150 to repair.

A previous ‘keying’ incident left her with a repair bill for £250.

She said: “I’m not going to pay £5 a day to park at Battle station.

“Where else are we meant to park?

“No one parks there at the weekend, so I do not understand why it should affect people during the day.”

The woman is now encouraging anyone else who has had their car vandalised in Glengorse to report the matter to the police.

Sergeant Dan Russell, of Battle police, said: “We are looking into it.

“We do understand there is a problem with parking down there, which we patrol on a regular basis.

“There have been cars damaged from time to time.

“We will be looking at that and trying to resolve the parking issues and criminal damage to cars.”

Sgt Russell is encouraging anyone who may have had their car vandalised in Glengorse to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999.
