Charity tea and cakes at pet shop

On Saturday (September 21) there was a display about the work of the RSPCA Sussex North branch, which serves Horsham, Crawley and Haywards Heath, and even a furry friend or two.

Customers at the Pets at Home shop in East Street showed their generous spirit and donated nearly £136 to help the branch continue with its vital rehoming and welfare assistance work.

Molly Foster, 17, who was there with the charity, said: “It’s the first time I’ve volunteered for the RSPCA.

“I just wanted to get involved with a local charity and I love animals. I’m hoping to work with animals one day.”

Branch treasurer Jo Worsley, pictured with her rescue dogs Trixie and Poppy, said: “As an RSPCA branch, we are responsible for raising our own funds to continue our vital animal welfare work.

“Without the support of local people and stores, we would not be able to help as many animals as we do.”

In 2013, RSPCA Sussex North branch rehomed nearly 100 animals, saw 185 clients at its partnership veterinary clinic in Roffey and provided low cost neutering to over 250 animals. It costs the branch around £45,000 a year to carry out its charitable activities.

The branch’s next event is Saturday October 4, when it will open its cattery in Crawley Road, Roffey to members of the public between 10am and 12pm.

As well as cats on display for rehoming, there will be a tombola, pet care advice and refreshments available.
