Cars are crushed by falling tree in Arundel

FOUR cars were damaged, two of them extensively, when a falling tree landed on top of them near Arundel railway station this afternoon Friday, June 7).

A number of cars were damaged in Arundel well a tree collapsed into a road near the town

Emergency services were called to the lane leading up to Warningcamp and Burpham where the tree had come crashing down yards from the junction with the busy A27, shortly after 1pm.

No one was injured, but a Land-Rover and a Vauxhall Astra estate were badly damaged, their roofs buckling under the weight of the tree, an ash. A Mini and a Nissan Micra were also damaged.

The lane was completely blocked by the fallen tree and police sent drivers on a diversion using Clay Lane, Crossbush.

Fire crews and county highways workers began clearing the road and later specialist contractors arrived to complete the job. The road was expected to reopen at about 4pm.

It’s thought the tree was on land belonging to the Norfolk Estate.

The area where the cars were parked is a popular parking place for commuters using the station.
