Car bursts into flames after collision

Police directed traffic while firefighters used a hose to put out the flames following Wednesday evening's accident at the Hastings Road-Penland Road junction.

They said neither driver had been hurt in the collision shortly before 7pm.

Hastings Road, currently a rat-run for drivers attempting to circumvent long queues at temporary traffic lights in the A259 De La Warr Road, was quickly the scene of a long tail-back before firefighters man-handled the Peugeot off the junction after quenching the flames.
