Call for post office to be reopened

A POST OFFICE historian has called for a post office in Cliffe High Street to be re-opened.

Roger Vaughan, from Godalming, said his hobby of studying postal services has highlighted a need for another post office in the town.

He has written to WHSmith to ask them to consider re-opening a branch in their Cliffe High Street store.

He said: 'I am actually a post office historian, a post office buff, so I am coming at it from an extreme angle.

'I like to use my interest to try and help from the public point of view.

'On a recent visit to Lewes I happened to be in the town centre during the lunchtime period and, on two visits to the High Street Post Office, found there were queues out onto the pavement.

'It was only on the third attempt I found the queue tolerable enough for it to be worth the wait.

'Clearly this is unacceptable in a civilised society.'

WH Smiths thanked Mr Vaughn for his comments but gave no hint that Lewes' WHSmith would be gaining an extra branch.
