Cabinet to decide BMX grant

YOUNG BMX riders in Bexhill could benefit to the tune of £5,000 if councillors decide to approve a grant.

Cabinet will decide on Monday whether to give the Bexhill Burners BMX Club the money towards track improvements at Sidley Recreation Ground.

The grant was orginally agreed in November 2005 to go towards skate facilities. The skate plan is no longer going ahead and the club have asked to use the money on upgrading the track.

The club has already successfully obtained a 24,000 grant through the Youth Opportunity Fund.

Rother director of services Anthony Leonard will tell members in his report: "The improvements will further alow the club to develop. Members of the club have been on coaching and club development courses supported by partners including Rother District Council's sport development officer and Rother Homes. They have also met the first stage of club accreditation as a 'Go Ride' club. Several members of the club have obtained national rankings this year and the completion of the track will further allow the club to develop.

"As the Bexhill Burners BMX Club are constructing, maintaining, managing and insuring this facility and allowing full community access, there is little risk to this council. Without additional funding the track will not be able to function at capacity."
