Sunday 9 June at 9.30am Family Sung Eucharist at St George’s Church Brede. 10.30am Trinity Methodist Church Broad Oak has Mrs L Gilchrist Preaching. At Noon and by kind invitation of Mr & Mrs Vickary there is to be a fundraising event for the repair of the Church Clock at Manor Farm. Entrance of £10 includes wine and nibbles. In the afternoon at 2pm our Cricketers will be playing against Clive Vale at home in the Recreation Ground. Between 4pm and 6pm the Male voice singer Sam Calver returns to the Rainbow Trout.

Monday 10 June Age Uk Daycentre meet at 10.30am in Brede Village Hall in the afternoon they are being entertained by Dave the music man. In the small hall in the afternoon Rainbows meet at 4pm and Brownies 5.30pm. In the evening 7.30 the Whist Players will be concentrating on their game

Wednesday 12 June The WI are having their Summer Lunch at 12am at Udimore Village Hall.

Thursday June 13 This morning Brede Friendly Circle have their outing to Lullingstone Castle so there is no evening meeting. Monday – Friday the Rainbow Trout are offering a lunchtime specials menu at £6.95. Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a further reduction for Senior Citizens to £6.50 which also includes tea or coffee. They are also starting The new Parent & Toddler group this Thursday beginning at 9am, they are offering coffee and cakes to parents after the morning school run, Toddlers can play in the indoor children’s corner or outside on the play equipment if the weather is good. On the 4th Thursday of the month a Quiz night will be held. Stretch and Tone 9.30am in the Village Hall. Later the Mobile Library will visit Brede Village Hall 1.25pm – 1.55pm

I have condensed the following to give those of you who could not attend an idea of what went on.

Last Saturday Rother Neighbourhood Watch held a community meeting at the Village Hall. The Chairman Mr Charles McLlwrick MBE welcomed those attending, (there were not many despite advance warning) adding it is not quantity but quality that matters. He thanked the WI ladies for providing refreshments. He introduced Caroline Randle Area Manager of Sussex Crime Stoppers and Katie Bourne Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner. Charles told the assembled about the formation of Rother Neighbourhood Watch and how it encourages people to be neighbourly, watch out for each other and in doing so cut crime. He mentioned that Funding was a problem as East Sussex Councils as far as he knew were the only ones in the Country that did not pay anything towards its upkeep despite the advantage for the rate paying public, they ask for a small amount to be set aside in the precept. It was also difficult finding new members. He finished with ‘We need you; You need each other’.

Caroline Randle spoke at length about Crime Stoppers and how important the eyes of the community are. Everyone who contacts them has complete anonymity they cannot find out who as called even if they do 1471. If someone calls and says it is my neighbour they only take the neighbours address and do not record you are the neighbour (I hope that makes sense) Crime stoppers can be contacted by phone or on line. Tel: 0800555111, 24 hours a day 7 days a week or at www.crimestoppers.uk.org The area covered is East and West Sussex Brighton and Hove and Gatwick. It began in Albuquerque, America in 1976 and came to Britain 19 years ago. The young peoples Crime Stoppers.’ Fearless’ are You Fearless? two ways to give info about crime anonymously call 0800555111 or online form at fearless.org it has many hits. Last year 2100 calls resulted in achievable calls which resulted in Police making arrests a 56% increase of calls over previous years. They have launched a Rural Campaign with English Heritage and the NFU (National farmers Union) and Sussex Police to try and cut Rural Crime. They have a Most Wanted website and Rogues Gallery. Caroline gave a few anecdotes and concluded with we continuously raise calls for the police to act upon with the Public’s help.

Katy Bourne spoke next, saying that November 15 2012 saw the biggest reform SUSSEX police had ever seen. Prior to this the Home Secretary set the policing priority for the Chief Constable of Sussex Police along with Targets to be achieved. The Police Authority was disbanded. Katy is now accountable for 17 East and West Sussex County Councils Brighton and Hove. The Plan, which has taken into account everybody’s wish list for the Commissioner is as follows –

Crime and Community Safety. Antisocial behaviour, road safety, antisocial parking and dangerous driving.

Domestic Abuse and Violence. There are 40 reports of domestic abuse daily. Twittertthon on the phone is less than 140 characters. ‘Talk to me, I can help. contact me online at http://www.talktomeicanhelp.com/ or call 101 when it is less urgent than 999 received 130 reports in 24hours 80.000 followed it on Twitter. If Families are known abusers if alcohol, drugs or are abusers any children in the family are helped by the police in the hope that they will not become like their parents.

Public Confidence. Trust in the Police to act on Domestic abuse, hate crime and antisocial behaviour Victims and Witnesses. Crime matters and now the police have to put the victim in the centre. Value for Money. It costs about £3.00 a week for the Police on a band D property. Making policing contracts more effective. 30 PCSO’s have been recruited and next week 80 Police Constables, 120 Specials. PSCO’s visit visit victims after a crime. Statistically PSCO’s gained 97.5% for perfection Response Police cars are based at Battle for Rye and Battle.

Why did you take on an Assistant? When I took over as Commissioner for the first 3 months I had 8 staff a Chief executive an assistant Chief executive Chief Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. I did away with the high posts and kept the Chief Treasurer as Finance Officer. I have a new Chief Executive. Under the Law I was able to appoint a Deputy. He is full time at £45.000 a year, for two years. He has no allowances or expenses for any travel in Sussex. For the record I do not take any either. He was a priority Chairman of the Policing Authority, Chief Executive from the MET and a Sussex Police Officer. So he has a wealth of experience.

We have the 14th largest force in the Country and the 7th cheapest to run. £186.000 a day saved and put back into Policing. I am proud to say we won the Police investing in Crime Award.

One of the public was a Custody Volunteer from our village she wanted to know if they were to be kept on. Katie replied that she had nothing but praise for the Custody Volunteers as they looked after criminals and made sure they did not harm to themselves or die in Custody they are run by the private firm Tasocar.

Broadlands Row resident asked about policing of speeding motorbikes which were a real nuisance last week. Katie replied that Police were actively working to slow down motorbikes across the County. Next week they were introducing

Operation Crackdown.

Sat 22 June The Association of Rye & District National Trust are holding a Summer Picnic in Smallhythe Place from 5pm and following at 6pm a performance in The Barn Theatre of Celebrating Shakespeare. A lighthearted romp with the Bard devised by Peter Mould. It promises to be amusing and entertaining. Event tickets £12.00 per person from Ros Adkin by returning the order form in the last Newsletter or by calling 01797 253763. They can also be obtained from the Reception desk at Smallhythe Place prior to the event. Numbers are limited so it is important to act fast and place your order now.
