Boot sale to raise school funds

The money raising event will be held at the Brent Road site of Nyewood CE infant and junior schools on March 24. Sellers can turn up at 7am, with buyers welcome an hour later.

Ruth Webb, the chairman of the infant school parent teachers association, said funds raised would go towards installing a new fence around the site and a new entrance gate.

The need for the changes was highlighted last term by some security alerts, as the Observer reported.

'Most of them turned out not to be serious,' she said, 'but the situation highlighted that the schools are not as secure as we wanted them to be for the children.'

A higher fence will be put in around the site's perimeter as well as gates which can only be opened by a buzzer system.
