Bomb disposal team at Birling Gap

The bomb disposal unit was called out to Birling Gap this afternoon (Saturday, March 5).

They had been called after a concerned member of the public spotted what they believed was an unexploded World War Two mortar round.

The area was cordoned off, but after closer inspection the item was found to be just a piece of scrap metal.

No further action was taken.
